William Wilberforce – A Practical View of Real Christianity
Single CD
Price: $10.95
William Wilberforce, the great British statesman, is best known as the driving force in Parliament that ended the slave trade in England. His tireless perseverance and deep-rooted trust in the gospel made him one of England's most effective political leaders. His book Real Christianity shows us the passion that fueled his life. Today, as the gap between "real Christianity" and "cultural Christianity" is as wide as it has ever been, it is important to look at Wilberforce as a guide to help us move beyond being a Christian in name only and towards being a dynamic, world-changing follower of Christ.
Reviews
by Benjamin Hodgson
Excellent, this wonderful and often overlooked work can be a chore to read; get through the dated language and syntax which at times gives John Owen a run for his money for inaccessibility is difficult. However, here it is made far more "readable" and understandable. I hope this will inspire many who would not have otherwise been able to glean the immense wisdom and truth in Wilberforce's work and that in doing so they may not be tricked into being content with a hollow shadow of an interpretation of real Christianity. There are great seams of truth and spiritual treasures to be dug from this book and enabling people to do the digging and to grapple with what is being said rather than how it is said is a great blessing indeed. The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because it is "key excerpts” from a book which in my opinion is excellent from cover to cover. If listening to this stirs you (and if it hasn’t you need to re-listen) I would strongly encourage you to work through the book itself, I can say that for myself it was a true turning point in my faith.
