King James Audio Bible Now Available

MORRISTOWN, NJ: Just two years after the release of the ESV Bible and five years after the release of the NIV Bible, The Listener’s Bible (the audio publishing ministry of Fellowship for the Performing Arts) will release the King James Bible (KJV) in October.

The KJV was written with oral presentation in mind. The grandeur of its phrasing and the rich musicality of its rhythms is well suited to Max McLean’s voice and style.

In Adam Nicolson’s 2003 best selling book The Making of the King James Bible he makes the following observations:

“The divines of the first decade of 17th century England were alert to the glamour of antiquity…meticulous in scholarship and always looking to the primitive and the essential as the guarantee of truth. Their translation was driven by…the feeling that the riches, beauties, failings and sufferings of Jacobean England were part of the same world as the one in which Job, David or the Evangelists walked…the King James translators could write their English words as if the passage of the 1,600 or 3,000 years make no difference…The book they created was consciously poised in its rhetoric between vigor and elegance, plainness and power.”

When comparing the KJV with more modern translations, Nicolson writes:

“Again and again the 17th century phrases seem richer, deeper, truer, more alive, more capable of carrying complex and multiple meanings, than anything the 20th century could manage.”
